Agriculture in the Central Valley produces 57% of California's agricultural products. While it is the Valley's economic base, it also provides healthy and nutritious food for the state, the nation and the world. In addition, agriculture also provides open space, a rural way of life, flood control, ground recharge and habitat for a large variety of wildlife.

Of the top ten agricultural producing counties nationwide, seven are located in the Central Valley: Fresno, Tulare, Kern, Kings, Merced, Stanislaus and San Joaquin.

California has been the United States' #1 agricultural state for more than 50 years. In the Central Valley, agriculture and agriculturally-related activity accounts for 32.9% of all employment.
