Study: Just 15% of lakes 'clean'
It's no secret that the Delta is contaminated with mercury, PCBs and pesticides. A new study sampling fish from a fraction of California's 9,000 lakes suggests most upstream water bodies are also tainted, from small Central Valley ponds to sprawling Lake Tahoe.

Late season rain causes a few headaches for growers
The nearly half-inch of rain that fell on Merced County over the weekend led to a headache for some local growers. The rain, which measured 0.32 inches Friday, 0.11 inches Saturday and 0.01 inches Sunday, played havoc with cherries and alfalfa hay lying on the ground.

LA sewage still on its way to Kings County
Composted Los Angeles sewage is still coming to western Kings County. It's just taking longer than expected. You can expect a giant plant southeast of Kettleman City to start churning out 100,000 tons a year of the treated muck in 2011, with an estimated full capacity of 300,000 tons per year reached by 2013.
